Two months after landing his first Division-I scholarship offer from UMass, the sophomore defensive lineman from Central High School in Springfield, Mass., was offered a scholarship by Michigan.

Lockett received the offer on Sunday during an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor. He also made stops at Michigan State and Central Michigan during the Midwestern swing.

He was emotional when he received the offer from the Minutemen and said his goal is to use football to go to college for free so his mother won’t have to pay after all of the sacrifices she’s made for him over the years.

Comfort will play a huge role in Lockett’s ultimate decision of which college to choose.

“The biggest factors will be am I going to feel comfortable being away from home, is it not going to make me homesick if I go there, is the school going to fit me and the way I play.”
